You can consolidate all of your necessary communication into the new Sony Smartwatch, the world’s first Android-compatible Smartwatch. The Smartwatch allows you to worry about one less thing by turning your phone into a remote of sorts: leave your phone in your purse, briefcase, desk, or pocket, and view calls and texts, check your email, control your music, get notifications, and much more with a gentle vibration of your Smartwatch on your wrist. One of the best new features of the Sony Smartwatch 2 is its rain-proof durability, meaning you can rely upon your Smartwatch anywhere at any time.

Head-up displays, or HUDs, are made up of a small projector which projects information or images that are bounced between several mirrors to show up on a screen. The information displayed has a transparent background which can be displayed on see-through screens such as windows and dashboards.

CNET called this Bluetooth-enabled, hands-free calling device a wearable, supercool speakerphone. And, it noted, you won’t look nearly as weird as those people with Bluetooth earsets. Plus, it chirps just like a proper Enterprise combadge should. Available from ThinkGeek for $79.99.

A Spy Pen Video Camera is only of any use if it actually looks like a pen (so many don’t), and this one is indistinguishable from the real thing. It even comes with three ink refills, so it’s perfectly acceptable as your normal work pen. The Spy Pen Video Camera might not make you a spy, but all the wizardry inside will make you at least consider a new hat and a pseudonym.

Meanwhile, French company MWM showed a prototype for something called Phase, which works with DVS-style DJ software (like Serato DJ) to eliminate the need for a tonearm and stylus when playing off control vinyl. It works with remotes that are affixed to the vinyl that then communicate rotation information via radio signals to a receiver that is connected to your laptop. This was my personal favorite, because not only does it solve all the issues that happen when playing with a traditional tonearm and stylus (everything from dust under a needle to needle skips from someone bumping into your setup), it can be used with any existing turntable. We saw several DJs performing complicated scratch routines using Phase with virtually no latency. Enhancia also made an appearance, demoing their MIDI ring that enables musicians to perform musical effects with simple gestures.

The 6DoF Blaster is an AR-ready laser tag gun. Merge has given it six-degree-of-freedom (6DoF) tracking, which phone-connected rival headsets have a hard time with. You can walk around with duck and aim quickly. Fun, and surely a sign that there are more AR toys to come.

On the education side, Blipblox was one of the more interesting items on the floor. A synth designed for three to eight-year-old kids, the Blipblox has arrow paths on top connecting all the buttons to show the synth’s signal chain. The idea is to get children interested in synthesis basics early on. But, there’s no iconography on the Blipblox itself to hint at what the buttons do, so it’s hard to say how much kids will really learn as opposed to just mashing buttons. The company told me that if kids want to learn more, they can read the manual that comes with it, but that seems to defeat the product’s purpose.
